Point Stadium hosted an intense girls soccer rivalry Wednesday night, as unbeaten Bishop McCort went head-to-head with Westmont Hilltop for the first time this season.
Beth Sheridan, Bishop McCort’s senior forward, scored twice in the first half and goalkeeper Maranda McIntosh made several outstanding saves en route to a 2-1 victory.

The Crushers are 4-0 while Westmont fell to 2-2.
The Crushers got big kicks from the small shoes of Sheridan, whose first goal came less than five minutes into the matchup. Her eventual game-winner was not only a powerful kick but in great contrast to her opening tally.
“The first goal I ripped pretty hard with my right foot and it skimmed the goalie’s fingers, but the second goal was left footed on a cross from Emily Basile and it went high over the goalie’s hands,” Sheridan said of her sixth and seventh goals of the season.
Sheridan’s goal with just 2:16 left in the opening half changed the momentum of the game.
“We watched her (Sheridan) get the ball and take a shot, and when that happens against teams teams like McCort you’re going to get beat,” Westmont coach John Saracena said. “Had we not let up and allowed that goal it could have been a different game in the second half.”
Sheridan said McIntosh’s presence made a huge difference.
“We kept on our toes in the second half. We weren’t going to give up the lead and Maranda gave us a great effort,” she said.
